Of course, as soon as I hit “Publish” on that last post, Bush went into talking about terrorism.
I do wonder if maybe Bush and Co. could have stopped short of saying, of Islamic extremists, that one can “take almost any principle of civilization, and their goal is the opposite.”
So we’re going to go after terrorists. I’m pretty comfortable that most people know that we’re going to do that, and some of them are even aware that we’ve been doing so for a while (albeit in a roundabout way that involves things like invading the wrong country).
No dreams here, it seems…the most dramatic statement that I’ve heard so far was from the open, when Bush called for a balanced budget and an end to earmarks.
Oh, wait…
We’ve driven the government into debt, by cutting taxes.
Now, we’re going to balance the budget, without raising taxes if Bush has his way.
Doesn’t that mean that we’re just going to cut programs, and funding for, say, The Department of Health and Human Services, or maybe the Department of Education (not that history suggests that those two departments are the first ones to have to cut, or anything…)?
